How we research, write, check and correct the guides and calculators on getgains.co.

Last updated 30 October 2026

Who writes our content

Guides and calculators are written and checked by Alex Lawrence, the founder of Get Gains: a qualified nutritionist who has lifted for 20 years. Every page shows who wrote it and when it was last updated.

How we research

How we use AI

Content is drafted with AI assistance, then fact-checked and edited by a human. AI helps with structure and first drafts. A person checks every claim against its source, rewrites what’s wrong or unclear, and decides what gets published. We never publish AI-invented quotes, personal stories or statistics, and any Get Gains usage data we quote is real and anonymised.

How we cite sources

How nutrition content is checked

Pages about nutrition, supplements and calorie targets get an extra check before they’re published. First, every claim is checked line by line against the research it cites, with AI helping to find and compare the papers. Then Alex, a qualified nutritionist, reviews the page and signs it off. The byline shows the date of that fact-check, and the page only shows it once the check is done for that version.

We don’t currently use an independent outside reviewer. Where a claim matters, we link the scientific paper or official guidance behind it so you can check it yourself. Lifting and exercise pages are written and checked by Alex.

Reviewed pages are checked again when the evidence or official guidance changes, and at least once a year.

Corrections

If you spot a mistake, email support@getgains.co with the page and what’s wrong. We check every report, fix confirmed errors promptly, and update the page’s date.

If food or exercise feels hard to control

If you’re worried about your eating, your weight or how much you exercise, you don’t have to deal with it alone. In the UK, Beat, the eating disorder charity, can help: call 0808 801 0677 or visit beateatingdisorders.org.uk.
